Dear Parent/Guardian,
Heart disease and stroke are America’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers and touch all of our lives. We want to inform our children how to help prevent these illnesses. During the week of February 9th, we will be holding our annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Each year our third, fourth and fifth grade classes are asked to help raise money for the American Heart Association while jumping rope during their normal P.E. times. The money raised for the Heart Association will aide in research and funding of programs that they offer. This event is not only an excellent way to provide community service but it is also part of our curriculum. We will learn jump rope skills and the benefits of having a healthy heart.
There are a few ways your child can help raise funds for this event. They may ask friends or family members to make a donation. Please do not allow your child to go door-to-door or ask strangers for donations. Parents/Guardians may take sponsor forms to work to collect donations or you may help your child set up an online page through the secure American Heart Association web-site. You will see how to set up an account on the collection envelope that your child has brought home. Also, many local businesses and companies offer “matching gifts” programs that will match the funds raised by your child. Please make checks payable to the American Heart Association. The due date for turning in money is February 23rd.
Every student will be involved in this event. However, each child is not required to raise money. If you chose not to have your child raise money that is perfectly fine, they will still jump rope with us during our normal P.E. time. If your child does raise money, the American Heart Association will provide “thank you” gifts that the children will receive at a later date.
Last year we collected over $4,000. This year we are hoping to raise more than that. Please take time to read and sign the permission slip that is located on the sponsor form/collection envelope.
Thank you in advance for your support on this special event. Together we are making a difference in lives our children and the community.

Sincerely,
